I'm Spanish. And
some of the things Jose Maria Aznar told at Georgetown are lies. It's that simple.
1) "
The terrorists achieved a clear victory after the 11th March atrocities in Madrid and the subsequent withdrawal of the Spanish contingent from Iraq. However, this was only a partial victory, in spite of the boost in morale it gave them. I do not know what they will attempt to do now. However, the pressure to demonstrate that they are not losing the war is very intense. It is so intense that they may be tempted to carry out an attack here
in order to influence the electoral process, as they did in Spain."
Terrible lie.
First of all. The PP (Aznar's political party) ignored completely the Spanish people opinion about going to Iraq. With all the hurt from my heart I have to say that I wasn't against this idea (now I've change my mind), I felt we had to go to Iraq.. never the less, I noticed that a huge mayority didn't feel the same, but Aznar didn't care a bit. HE WANTED TO GO, and he MADE US GO THERE.
I never vote. Why did I vote on March the 14th, 2004, and I gave my vote to Zapatero and not to Aznar? Because Jose Maria Aznar and his party (PP) kept trying to convince Spanish people that the Spanish terrorist group ETA was responsible for the Atocha's massacre.
The massacre took place the 11th of March, and the elections where going to take place the 14th... they wanted to manipulate the identity of the perpetrators of the attack at least until the 14th, so Spanish people wouldn't believe that Spain had been targeted by Al Qaeda because we had soldiers in Iraq.
Of course that a lot of people vote to Zapatero because he was their first choice, or because they felt ignored when they protested against the war, but a lot of people like me, that never vote, or vote to small left wing political parties, gave their vote to Zapatero just to make clear one point: don't lie to your own people, don't treat us as idiots.
It wasn't the terrorist act, it was the PP bad doing and lies the only responsibles for the goverment change. If I had seen the PP standing for the Spanish people, trying to catch the REAL RESPONSIBLES from the beginning, being transparent and honest.. I would have think "Here I have a political party that cares".. but nothing of that happened.
And what really bothers me is that he keeps drawing this horrible image about the Spanish people... easily manipulated, idiots.. not adults that really know what they want.. And what we don't want, Mr. Aznar, are liers.
journalist Juan Antonio Ortega:
"The vote against the Popular Party was not dictated so much by the fact that Aznar had imposed an unpopular war on our people. It had to do with the fact that he lied. It was a total betrayal of democracy. Even when most newspapers were pointing out that the culprits could not have been ETA,
when ETA leaders were saying they had nothing to do with the devastation, Aznar was busy pressuring editors, telling them the Basque separatist organisation was behind the carnage and destruction. It was dishonest, low, manipulative and despicable. The government's attitude showed it up for what it was - a lying, cheating bunch of politicians with scant respect for the voters who put them there in the first place. If the government had said: `We don't know who it was, we are looking into it', the Popular Party would still have won the elections"
As soon as I'm able I'll keep writing. It's Saturday, and even an idiot like me loves to go out for a while and have fun
